Catholics do full immersion baptism at the request of the person being baptised or the parents of the infant, though i do beleive that it has to be done within the walls of a church, as does marriage, for example.
Then again, not all preists are catholic preists, so that story didn't strike me as odd at all.
I knew immediately the 2 photos she was referencing too-- they're burned (so to speak) into the minds of any american born any time between, I suspect, 1940 and 1980. After that, who knows. Kids today. Etc.
