Dude! THEY CHOPPED OFF PARIS HILTON'S HEAD.
Epic.
Oh Show. Oh Show, oh Show, oh Show.
I really enjoyed this episode, but it was kind of weird. It felt a lot like season 3, i.e., Dean is kind of an asshole, and Sam is not as long suffering as he likes to think he is. (And the talk about finding the Colt, and why they were not). AND THERE WAS NO CASTIEL. (Which, come to think of it, is probably a large part of the reason this felt like an older episode.)
Also, we had the return of daddy issues! ABSENT FATHERS. HOOKER FIC. DEEEAN.
But I am so, so glad Sam gave the speech that he did. Because he's right. Dean's never really treated Sam like an adult. Sam's always been Dean's "kid brother." He constantly refers to Sam as "his job" or "responsibility." (That's my job, right? Show my kid brother the ropes.) Part of the reason Dean was so torn up about Sam starting the Apocalypse was because he felt like it was his failure. Obviously he had failed as an older brother if Sam could do something like that. It's not that Sam and Dean have always had an unequal relationship, but that Dean has always seen Sam not entirely as a person, but as a concept. Much as I love and ship wincest, that's always been my greatest problem with it. Until Dean can see Sam as a partner and an adult, their relationship will always have tension.
AND THEN DEAN AGREED AND ADMITTED THAT IT WAS HIS FAULT TOO AND LET SAM DRIVE.
I've been waiting for Dean to admit his culpability all season. He even did something better- he pointed out that Sam honestly, really didn't know better. Which I wanted Dean to admit, but wasn't sure we were gonna hear. This is great. I am so freakin' happy right now.
I do think it's interesting that they placed this huge step forward in the boys' relationship in an episode that felt so much like the earlier seasons. They're going back to the basics. But they're going back to the basics in a better way.
ALSO. I forgot what also was. ):
Oh right. I still want Castiel to acknowledge that he let Sam out. And personally, I think Castiel, of- Sam, Dean, and Castiel- is most responsible for the Apocalypse, because he's the only one who knew is actions would lead to the breaking of the final seal and the rising of Lucifer.
I'd also like them to address Evil Message of Evilness.
And, while we're talking about things that aren't likely to happen, Sam and Dean should have a hug that doesn't involve someone coming back from the dead.
Re: The rest of the episode. Very funny. :D But I think I liked it more for the speechifying and relationship talk than evil!Lincoln and evil!Gandhi. Which, considering that I loved evil!Lincoln and Gandhi, says a lot. And yay! Paris! She did a good job. :D And, lol, Sam can have a conversation in Spanish just from remembering freshman Spanish? LOLOLOL I do love how all Sam's non-hunting related talents are explained by "college." A knowledge of art history? COLLEGE. Conversational Spanish? COLLEGE. Filling out the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle in ink? COLLEGE MOTHERFUCKERS.
Oh, and Dean and Sam both have laptops! LET THE WEBCAM WINCEST FIC COMMENCE, BITCHES.
Finally: HOLY SHIT DID YOU SEE TH E UPCOMING OMG CASTIEL IS GOING TO TRY TO KILL A CHILD FAIL CASTIEL AND :D :D :D OLD DEAN! AND TV SHOW HILARITY AND AND AND AND AND
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SEASON EVER, GUYS.
