Finally watched last week's Psych and...

OMG! It's Bobby! Jim Beaver guest starred on Psych! I knew he was the bad guy as soon as he showed up, but I like my alternate version better where he's really Bobby investigating what he thinks might be a haunting. Then he meets this supposed psychic and... I dunno. But then Sam and Dean get involved somehow. There really should be more Supernatural/Psych crossovers.

Also: "She doesn't love him like a brother. Unless they're a really weird family. Some serious flowers up in that attic."

A conversation about brotherly incest in an episode in which a Supernatural actor guest stars?

Interesting, I say. Veeery interesting.

And completely unrelated to my OTP fangurling, I (mentally) squeed when Jules and Lassie high-fived. I don't ship them, but I love it when they're all buddy cop partnery.

I also watched yesterday's Leverage, which was fun and nice and continues to make me :D. But I just realized I really want an Ocean's 11/Leverage crossover where Rusty and Sophie occasionally meet up to pull cons and drink cocktails and bemoan the clueless men in their lives (Danny Ocean and Nate Ford, respectively).

And here are some articles on language. The topic tonight was going to be torture because I am still upset about Obama continuing Bush's policy of extraordinary rendition, but I felt so happy after watching Psych, I decided to go with something lighter.

Hangman Spare That Word: The English Purge Their Language

Time Magazine, October 2008

"The available lexicon may soon get slimmer. The lexicographers behind Britain's Collins English Dictionary have decided to exuviate (shed) rarely used and archaic words as part of an abstergen"t (cleansing) process to make room for up to 2,000 new entries."
Short, interesting look at some rarely used and endangered words. I especially like "skirr" and "fubsy."

A Brief History of the F-Word
Time Magazine, April 2008

"Take away the right to say 'f___' and you take away the right to say 'f___ the government..
"
A short, entertaining look at one of my favorite words, with some thoughtful discussion of the First Amendment thrown in.

Excuse me, do you speak Klingon?
Salon, June 2009

"Despite being unremittingly mocked by journalists and linguists over the past 120 years, Esperanto
has innumerable advantages over every other proposed universal language. You've actually heard of it, for one thing."
Technically a book review, but also a fascinating look at invented languages. Well worth the read.

Why Swearing Helps Ease Pain
Time Magazine, July 2009

"According to a new study by British researchers, saying the F word or any other commonly used expletive can work to reduce physical pain — and it seems that people may use curse words by instinct."
Weird and wonderful and a great excuse for screaming out "Fuck!" next time you stub your toe. Also, it quotes Steven Pinker, and, boy howdy, do I have a mindcrush on Stephen Pinker.

Have a good weekend y'all.

Squeee - Psych! Yes, :)

And I think it might be just me but damn Jim Beaver looked way hotter than on Supernatural he's been hiding a nice fit package under that flannel. here is a crossover fic based on that episode that I adored!

"A conversation about brotherly incest in an episode in which a Supernatural actor guest stars?" Yeah someone else caught this, Me and DH both laughed like loons, because really?

And since you watched Leverage, they did something similar there. The second teams hacker was played by Wil Wheaton (Star Trek's Wesley and they totally dropped a Star Trek reference, Kobayashi Maru)

Nice to know other people are so happy made by Psych too! I've laughed so hard this season that it's actually hurt, I don't know if the writing has just gotten better or the comedic timing is more on, but I've rarely watched TV that makes me just laugh nearly non-stop!

Oh no, I noticed too. Maybe he's been slimming down for the coming Apocalypse?

But mostly, I was just feeling horribly dirty about checking him out. Almost as bad as the time I saw JDM naked in a movie and had to run out of the room. *sigh*

I still can't decided if the brother conversation was an intentional shout out or not. Either way: LOL.

Ooh, I caught the Kobayashi Maru reference to Star Trek (and before Parker pointed it out for us *g*), but I didn't realize Wil Wheaton was formerly on Star Trek.

Psych is just so much fun! Leverage is too. They're my happy place TV, unlike some shows that have been known to make me weep like a little girl. *cough*Supernatural*cough* And I think you're right, Psych has been better this year. Maybe because (so far) they're concentrating a little less on the shippy Jules/Shawn stuff?

Oh and thanks for the fic link! *runs to read*
