I spent the first four hours after the show ended getting very, very drunk and crying, and the four immediately after that sleeping it off. Now I am mostly sober, less emotionally devastated, and able and willing to write a cogent review.

I might still be a little tipsy and this got very, very long. )

And thank you very much to [livejournal.com profile] familiardevil and [livejournal.com profile] cherie_morte for talking me off the edge. Thank you also to my real life friends for the hugs, sympathy, and alcohol and for still being my friends despite my insane and unhealthy emotional attachment to my show. And thanks, finally, Mom and Dad for letting me drunk dial you and rave about how very, very much the boys love each other.

Supernatural!

spoilers for 5.20 )

Related! I had a dream last night (technically this morning since I didn't go to sleep till 8 am and woke up at 1) about the season finale.

Not actually spoilery, because I am not actually a psychic. )

In real life, I'm feeling emotionally and mentally better than I have been for awhile. I'm still sleeping at weird hours, and I have a cold, and I wrote half an e-mail to my dad at four in the morning because I had a sudden crisis of faith about the liberal project and the idea of man as a rational, moral being. But except for the cold, that's all pretty par the course, and I feel happy. \o/

Now for an icon meme!

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

Okay, I'm probably going to delete this later and offer up a better reaction, because I really enjoyed the episode as a whole. Rant's staying up. My reaction is my reaction. (And, I'd like to reiterate, I thought this was a great episode. I still have issues.)

However.

Still working on the drabbles! MOST OF THEM ARE NOT ACTUALLY DRABBLES. *sigh*

Basically, Sam Winchester is my favorite person ever.
Like, more than Rahm Emanuel or Queen Elizabeth 1, he's my favorite person.

The only person who's more of a Sam!girl than me, is Dean. )

Oh, and if anyone is interested, I still have one space open for drabble writing. So if you want me to write you a drabble (more of a ficlet, really, I'll be honest), just amble over to my previous post.

Those who already requested a drabble, you'll get them when I'm done with them and be grateful for it, dammit sometime this week.

IRL: I went to Target today, by myself. Which does not sound like that big of a deal, except this is the first time I've been a significant ways off campus without someone, and I figured out the public transportation on my own and everything. :D! *pins badge to chest* I ended up spending too much money. Most of it was necessary (like the pants I bought; all of the sudden all my pants were too large. Apparently I lost the freshman fifteen instead of gaining them?), but I also got a red peacoat WHICH I DIDNT NEED. But which I have already received several compliments on today. So.

Now I think I'll clean my room some and then go to Tea. (We have tea here every Friday; it's awesome.) Then it's Haunted House, kill a couple hours, swing dancing, bed, SPN mini-marathon, schoolwork, House party, Halloween party in city, questionable activities of questionable legality, bed, schoolwork, White Castle adventure, schoolwork. And that's my weekend plans in a nutshell. (Note: schoolwork also means, "Write fic and goof around on lj while pretending to do schoolwork.")

There were some other things I wanted to discuss, but they're more Serious and this has gone on long enough. So I'll end by asking you, "What's your favorite Halloween tradition? What Halloween tradition would you like to start?"

Have a good weekend, and a safe and happy Halloween to those of you who celebrate.

Watched 5.02 and enjoyed it. Have a lot of thinky-thoughts about it that I'll try to type up later.

Oh, and have a (completely unrelated, I swear! >>) poem:

i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

 e.e. cummings

ETA: OMG I need to stop hanging out at Fandom Free For All. I have signed up to write so much fic. This is ridiculous. x__x
coyotesuspect: (a brother who would die for you)
Warning: This contains very minor casting spoilers for next week's episode; casting spoilers you already know about if you watched the promo.

Mainly glee and thinky thoughts.  )

Finally watched last week's Psych and...

***
I also watched yesterday's Leverage, which was fun and nice and continues to make me :D. But I just realized I really want an Ocean's 11/Leverage crossover where Rusty and Sophie occasionally meet up to pull cons and drink cocktails and bemoan the clueless men in their lives (Danny Ocean and Nate Ford, respectively).

***

And here are some articles on language. The topic tonight was going to be torture because I am still upset about Obama continuing Bush's policy of extraordinary rendition, but I felt so happy after watching Psych, I decided to go with something lighter.

Hangman Spare That Word: The English Purge Their Language

Time Magazine, October 2008

"The available lexicon may soon get slimmer. The lexicographers behind Britain's Collins English Dictionary have decided to exuviate (shed) rarely used and archaic words as part of an abstergen"t (cleansing) process to make room for up to 2,000 new entries."
Short, interesting look at some rarely used and endangered words. I especially like "skirr" and "fubsy."

A Brief History of the F-Word
Time Magazine, April 2008

"Take away the right to say 'f___' and you take away the right to say 'f___ the government..
"
A short, entertaining look at one of my favorite words, with some thoughtful discussion of the First Amendment thrown in.

Excuse me, do you speak Klingon?
Salon, June 2009

"Despite being unremittingly mocked by journalists and linguists over the past 120 years, Esperanto
has innumerable advantages over every other proposed universal language. You've actually heard of it, for one thing."
Technically a book review, but also a fascinating look at invented languages. Well worth the read.

Why Swearing Helps Ease Pain
Time Magazine, July 2009

"According to a new study by British researchers, saying the F word or any other commonly used expletive can work to reduce physical pain — and it seems that people may use curse words by instinct."
Weird and wonderful and a great excuse for screaming out "Fuck!" next time you stub your toe. Also, it quotes Steven Pinker, and, boy howdy, do I have a mindcrush on Stephen Pinker.

Have a good weekend y'all.
