I'd kind of forgotten how much I hated living someplace where the most exciting thing to do is hang out in the K-Mart the next town over. Also, the only movie rental place around went out of business, and the internet here isn't even fast enough for Hulu, so my desire to see Generation Kill/Star Trek TOS/Dogma/1776 remains thwarted.

*wills parents to get NetFlix*

I guess to give people an idea of the town I went to high school in, and where my family still lives: You know all those small towns Sam and Dean visit in season 1 and 2? And you're always thinking, "This America isn't even real! Why the hell have there been only two black people in this entire show? Does everyone really carry a gun?" And there are creepy dark pine trees and depressed goth girls skirting around the edges of everything? That's here. Maybe I'll steal my sister's camera one of these days and go snap a picture of the house where the road turns off into the woods with the Confederate flag and the noose in the front yard.

Living condition-wise, since the house is too small for everyone to have their own room, and my older brother already sleeps in the garage, I've been sleeping on a mattress on the floor of my little sister's room and living out of my suitcase. But despite all this (and all the passive aggressive bitching I do to familiar) I'm happy? I did really miss my family. And damn, but the stars out here are beautiful.

Also! I got my driver's handbook! So presumably I am going to learn how to drive! oh god what if I kill someone

I've killed two black widows* in the past week. A third one has taken up residency in the fusebox, and I await my day to kill it. The battle between girl and poisonous arachnid continues.

In other news, soccer RPF has taken over my brain. I've written like 4000 words of porn even. And I hate writing porn. ALL FOR U, [livejournal.com profile] familiardevil , ALL FOR U.

My head hurts. Have some memes wut I stole from [livejournal.com profile] cantarina1  and [livejournal.com profile] unavoidedcrisis :

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes office supplies."

and:

Post a link to whatever fanworks you're most proud of! I don't care what your medium is: podfic, art, graphics, meta, fic, poetry, mixes; if you're particularly proud of it, I want to see it in the comments. Throw in a link to something you've always wished had gotten more attention and I'll wander over to have a visit. If you think I've already seen it but it really is your favourite, post it anyway. I'll leave more feedback if I haven't already left much and it gives everyone else a chance to be exposed to these fantastic things they may have missed.

*I originally forgot to put the very important modifier "black" here. So it read "I've killed two widows in the past week." Yeeeeah.

ETA: Oh, and the point of this post: I haven't been getting lj notifications! And since I only use my e-mail for lj notifications, I haven't really been checking it! Also, aim signs me on automatically on the family computer (despite my unclicking the "sign in automatically" box), so, uh, be careful lest you end up talking to my dad or little brother or cousins? Believe it or not, I have been even worse about keeping in touch with real life friends. I don't even remember the last time I logged in on facebook. /o\

Those tiny towns always make banjo music play quietly in my head. You know how I mean. But it's okay but I live in one too.

One thing about Leen: I absolutely, positively cannot walk in any form of high heels.

A good friend of mine plays the banjo. He told me once that Mayan heiroglyphs are proof that man and dinosaurs once co-existed. Also, he found God when he was hit by a car while riding a bike.

*shrugs*

That is very sad. ): I love high heels. I used to wear them to school all the time my senior year.

So small. I'm trying to think of the English equivalent but all the small towns I've gone to have been rather nice no nooses or anything.

Stuff about me? I'm an urban girl but I still love the countryside. I love classical music. I have an interest in fictional incest so the SPN fandom was good for me. I like parfait. Got an interest in Japan/Japanese. I like being short (5'2") but I'm normal size in Japan and that is weird.

I did not think anyone in Cali lived in a place more country than me - you are in Cali, Y/Y? If not, I blame the graying gray matter. I'm old - get off my grass, you dumbass kids!

So the thing about me, since you brought up desolate little burgs...I literally stop for chickens while taking my son to school and it's always fun for us to see if the ponies are wearing their blankets in the morning. On the main street I've witnessed - mind you in fenced yards, but still - goats mating and peacocks strutting. The NRA calls my house weekly - it's the demographic and the Bush/Palin signs painted a lovely blue and red field around the neighborhood during election season. And - drum roll please - if you stop by on a Saturday the local hot dog, sandwich stand plays host to a semi-trailer bed bedecked in the glory of the confederate south.

My favorite thing by me, hmmmm... this is hard and unfair to make you look at the end of the world, long ass fic with unicorns and musical numbers so....truthfully this is my favorite thing - part of a bonded Sam/Dean story, Sam is 12, but this is very PG-13.

please to be coming and killing my black widows - many of them and they will challenge the great widow slayer with their soul sucking black carapaces and snicking pincers

I am in Cali! Up in the foothills around the Sierra Nevadas. I'm assuming your inland Cali too, if you've got the same political demographics. I remember stealing a Prop 8 sign that was out in front of my little brother and sister's school, and "improving it" by adding a skirt to the husband and taping a big "NO" over the yes. Then I carried it around school the next day. o:)

No chickens that I've seen! But a girl I tutored in math kept goats, and I know several people who raise llamas, of all things.

Thanks for the link! :D I will be sure to check it out.

I would be happy too. Let me just find my Trusty Rock of Big Crushing.

I think I blather all over people's comments about myself, but let's see, five odd minor facts about me:

1. I am deeply arachnophobic. If I ever have black widows, someone is definitely going to have to come deal with them. And then get me discharged AMA from some fine mental institution.

2. I have twice tried to learn Middle Welsh, but it didn't stick either time. OTOH, I do know that Old Irish had a word for "a pile of severed heads," so my education in things Celtic has not been totally wasted.

3. I grew up in NYC, and something still clicks for me when I go back to visit and come out of my old subway station.

4. I dislike the combination of peanut butter and chocolate. Too gooey.

5. I was known in undergrad for giving dub con head pats.

Something I'm proud of? I'm still new at this fic business, I'm proud every time I finish something. While I'm not sure it is my favorite thing I've written, I congratulate myself on having written the angstiest hamster fic in fandom, because I approve of the idea of hamster angst.

But neat memes! Thing re: me--if one of my favorite songs comes on while I'm driving, and I arrive at my destination...I can't get out of the car until the song finishes. Or if I'm in a hurry and I *have* to get out, it BUGS me that I have to turn the song off partway through.

I didn't know you lived/came from a small town. I have very little experience with small towns, except for driving through them on roadtrips as a kid, and occasionally stopping to gas up or eat. I was born and raised in a big city, I live in what used to be considered one of the worst neighbourhoods (but it's not! Okay, yeah, it is kind of ghetto but still not that bad), and I am so used to the sound of traffic, that when we used to go camping every summer, I couldn't sleep because it was too quiet (or maybe it was that the noise outside was bugs not cars:/). I honestly think I would go out of my skull in a small town.

And that 'decorative' noose in the front yard of that house you mentioned - um, wow, colour me shocked. I can't imagine living in a place where someone could do that and people would let it go (or where someone wouldn't get the shit kicked out them for it). I guess I'm pretty naive for a city girl.

Also, black widows?! Ugh, gross and scary! You are much braver than I. I would be terrified. I'm pretty much afraid of everything, but I've been driving since I was 16 (which is, yeah, a while ago). In other words, if I can do it, you can, too :)

It's complicated, actually. I've only lived here since I was 13, when my dad retired from the Army. But before that, I lived all over the place. And it's where my family lives now, so it's where I come back to on breaks.

Where you live now kind of sounds like where I go to school- the neighborhood just to the south of us has a bad reputation. but really! It's not that bad.

I couldn't sleep because it was too quiet
I've heard of people feeling that way before, and it just seems so strange to me! But I guess I can sleep anywhere. *g*

And that 'decorative' noose in the front yard of that house you mentioned - um, wow, colour me shocked.M
Yeah, there's a lot of that kind of ugliness around here. : / And it definitely colored my perception of what was normal. A lot of the desks in my high school had swastikas carved into them. Which I didn't think was acceptable, but still thought was normal for an American high school. When I mentioned it to my college friends, they all stared at me in shock and horror. And we had problems my junior and senior year with people coming onto campus to harass the few black students.

So, when people tell me racism isn't a big deal in America anymore, I can't help but wonder what planet they live on.

I don't mind spiders. Really, I'm kind of fond of them. I'm just not a fan of poisonous ones. And thanks for the support. *hugs*

Aw, I'm glad you're happy hanging out with the fam, even amongst the arachnid hunts and tight living quarters and movie deprivation!

And yay for not being a picky eater! I like to think I'm not, but that's probably not true.

My best friend in middle schools love supplies too. Her favorite store was Office Depot. *fond memories*

OH MAN. You live in a smaller town than me! I mean, I know my town isn't too small (there's Prundale, Greenfield, King City and Chular nearby, which are all way smaller) but now I feel bad complaining about it when you live there! We have bowling alleys and near by beaches and Borders. DO YOU EVEN HAVE A BORDERS, COY? D:

YOU SHOULD GET NETFLIX. TOTES SHOULD.

Confederate flags? Nooses? Black widows? EEEK! *hides* *steals you away to hang at the beach and with my netflix on demand*

I AM SO PLEASED YOU ARE WRITING PORN. \O/ FAMILIAR IS DOING A GOOD JOB IN CORRUPTING YOU.

Oh man. I suck at telling facts about myself. YOU ALREADY KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT ME, COYOTE. I live in California? By the ocean? FUCK, I DON'T KNOW. YOU SHOULD ASK ME ACTUAL QUESTIONS.

Also, everything I've written that you'd be into you've already commented on XD So, the work I'm most proud of the Jo/Bela you beta'd *___*

ALSO, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, COY. DON'T NOT BE GETTING NOTIFICATIONS! DDDD: THIS MAKES ME SO SAD IN MY HEART! COME BACK! Also, I really hope I don't accidentally talk to your bro or dad or cousins on AIM accidentally. Is there a question I should ask to make sure (or to make sure your bro or cousins aren't pretending to be you?).

UM OKAY SO

RANDOM FACT: I can do this trick with my hands -->

(The trick is to not let any of your fingertips separate while doing it.)

FAVORITE FANWORK: We've come a long way (J2 AU; 16k+ words). I wrote this for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas exchange, and while it's far from perfect, it's definitely my biggest accomplishment (first time participating in a fandom "event," first time writing something over 10k, etc.).

TRUFAX: I JUST SPENT LIKE TWO MINUTES TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THAT. FAILURE, IT IS MINE.

I still haven't made it past 10K. I've made it to 10K, but not beyond. Someday though, someday. And I will check it out. I do so love J2 AUs. <3

ETA: Also, if I did not get "Don't Stop Believing" stuck in at least three people's heads, I will be disappointed.

IDK. Living in small towns like that sounds kinda awesome to me. I grew up in the suburbs, so the city was always just a few miles away, so I guess that's why these really small places sound charming imo ;-)

LOL I mean, parts of it are nice. It's really gorgeous around here, and there are a lot of opportunities to get involved on a very fundamental level. But there are a lot of problems, as well. And I do prefer cities, in the end.

Despite my affection for all things Trek, TOS makes my head hurt. I hope you can get more enjoyment out of it than I've ever been able to.

I'm the eldest, with three younger brothers, though the dynamics sometimes get flipped because two of them are very, very close to my own age and they did a lot of the "eldest sibling" groundwork with the parents while I was ill. We're very close-knit and I consider myself very, very lucky to have them.

:o How did it make your head hurt? I've seen episodes of it (my dad's a huge fan), and it is dreadfully campy, but I like campy. *g* And I am kind of interested in comparing its political worldview with that of Firefly's.

I love hearing about people who are close to their siblings. I have three as well (second child, though), and I'm incredibly close to all of them. Lucky, indeed. ♥

That is what Key West is like, only the creepy dark pines are palm trees, the depressed goth girls are friendly Cubans, and there are tons of rainbow flags :D :D :D

The vagina spiders will be angered that you have murdered their kin. I hope you're prepared to face them in October.

I love you so much. There aren't words. *just reread fight!fic* *wiggles*

Ack my face is so sunburnt. BUT. KITTEN CIRCUS SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EEK I HOPE HE'S THERE TONIGHT.

Have a wonderful night my sweet delilah ♥ I might be on later tonight and I'll probably be on a little tomorrow before we leave. MWUAH.

D: *rubs aloe vera on your face* AND OMG KITTEN CIRCUS EEK HAVE FUN

MWAH! I'm sorry I missed you earlier. I was sleeping. ): But I will- I hope- catch you tonight.

Have a fantastic day. ♥

Oh wow, I'd love to see your home town! Do take some pictures! :)

The first time I was in the States I stayed in this tiny little place with one bar that we went to, where you had to be very careful not to look too long at the mullet ladies' boyfriends, to avoid having a picther smashed over your head :O That'd be a little something about myself: I've so far stayed in/travelled through the UK, the USA and Canada - I love spending time in English languaged countries (coming from a country of only five million people, I love the amounts of media and the diversity of culture).

A story that I'm happy with would be Love Like Semtex, mainly because I was so love in with the first seasons of Entourage, and I'm pleased that I actually managed to finish something for this fandom :)

One day when it is not 99 degrees out, I probably will go take some pictures.

:O That is somewhat frightening. But also kind of cool. And, gosh, traveling! Eek! What's your favorite of the places you've been?

Mmm, Entourage. I still haven't seen the latest season, and I'm not sure if I should. I like leaving it off with E and Vince reuniting all codependent like they're supposed to be. And the early seasons are love.

wait seriously black widows? AAAAAGH NO. I am not okay with this poisonous spider thing, if you get bitten and die before school starts I will be VERY ANGRY and also AAAGH POISONOUS THINGS THAT BITE.

::concerned looks at you::

thing about me: I don't know which apartment I'm living in next year or how the rooming situation will work out. I decided not to worry.

I...so this one time, at school, I had to write about Twilight for a prompt and I came out with this and it is half meta and half fic 100% femslash.

IT'S OKAY. I SURVIVED FIVE YEARS HERE. I'm pretty sure I can survive another two months. BUT YOUR CONCERN IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

D: D: D: D: D: THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Why don't you know? I thought everything was sorted out and you were staying on the third floor apartment????

>) Oh really. Is it Alice/Bella? I bet it is Alice/Bella.

I love this meme, but man it's hard to pull random facts out without being prompted. hrm. I have a hard time finishing series, not just because of follow-through, but because I hate to see my favorite things end. I've still never seen the ending to some of my all-time favorite shows after YEARS. With books, I used to read from the beginning, skip to the end, and then loll backwards and forwards in the middle. I'm better at it now, but I still slip into the habit. What's weird is that I'm still really obsessed with the correct order of the media I consume.
