My argument: Remus/Sirius.

Both have awful childhoods. As a couple (if you accept that they're a couple), they're broken apart by distrust during a time in which all their friends are dying, spend most of their adult lives alone- one as a prisoner in Azkaban, the other poverty stricken and ostracized by society, only, after being briefly reunited, to both die relatively young. Sam/Dean, at least, still have the possibility of a happy ending, and, since they're the heroes of their text, are pretty likely to get that happy ending.

Fucking your brother isn't a happy ending. At least Remus and Sirius end up in an afterworld that is posited as being pretty cool and happy. Sam and Dean's  lives are unremittingly bleak and tragic. Neither of them have a childhood, every time they have something good, it's ripped away from them. They're forced to watch the most important person in their life (each other) die or betray them again and again. Also? the S5 season finale.

ALSO. I HAVE JUST REALIZED, TONKS=LISA, TEDDY=BEN. SIRIUS WANTED REMUS TO HAVE A CHANCE AT HAPPINESS. *flail* *spazz*

I'd have to say Remus/Sirius because they never really got a chance to be happy with one another. Sam and Dean had each other for most of their lives, they get that. But Sirius and Remus had their time together cut short by war, then seperated by Azakaban for 12 years, then had a very small amount of time together before one died. :( It makes me a sad Scorp.

Just reading about Sirius/Remus makes me all nostalgic and sad D: D: D: I think theirs is a more tragic story in the sense that they spent way more years apart. Dean/Sam had more time to be together and enjoy their relationship, while Sirius and Remus had their lives torn apart by the war and then a misunderstanding and then 10+ years in Azkaban and when they [fucking] finally get to reunite, short after one of them gets killed. And then Remus dies, too, AND THEY DON'T GET TO COME BACK OR TRADE THEIR LIVES FOR EACH OTHER.

ETA: Forgot to add that I only ship Remus/Sirius in the most passive sense (I acknowledge it and agree with it, but I've never written/sought out fic to read or anything like that), so my viewpoint is biased by definition.

In my mind, Sam/Dean retire to schmoopy domestic (OK, incestuous, but hey) curtain!fic and grow old and become erotically obsessed with each other's reading glasses and get a chance to be genuinely happy. And canon hasn't eliminated the possibility YET. So, yeah, I go for Sirius/Remus.

OTOH, if that ends with Sam/Dean spending an eternity in sucky heaven with Sam all leaving all the time and Dean all refusing to get his head out of his ass, that would be pretty depressing and I'd have to say that Sirius/Remus get the eternal curtain!fic and Sam/Dean win after all.

I would have said Remus/Sirius because they both die but in my opinion sometimes death isn't a bad thing. If you believe in life after death they could be together. They came together and all that. Sometimes even if things are short lived they can give you happiness, they can wipe away everything. They had each other in school and even though there is all that pain and betrayal they still were able to overcome that.

Sam/Dean on the otherhand could never have their relationship made valid, it would always be kept secret. It would have to be kept secret, taboo etc. One would always want happiness for the other because their minds are so skewered they can't really do middle ground I don't think.

Maybe they don't die but because I'm severely depressed and think about killing myself everyday I sometimes think living is the hardest thing to do because you keep on thinking, there is no peace there is no end no joy just more of the same. Dean pretty much watched the one person he would give anything for rip everything apart and betray and lie to him constantly, so Sam is left alone and even if they come together again Sam leaves again so soon. They can't say anything. They both suffer, and especially if you take into account that Kripke said there would be five seasons and if the finale was series finale well Dean has to live everyday thinking and wondering and all of that. They live for each other and not for themselves, and I don't think that is really　a way to live. That is why I think Sam/Dean is more tragic.

I picked Remus/Sirius because THEY ARE SO SAD AND ONLY GOT TO BE HAPPY FOR A SORT OF AMOUNT OF TIME AND WERE SEPERATED, IN TOTAL, MUCH MORE TIME THAN SAMNDEAN HAVE BEEN SEPERATED IN THEIR LIVES (unless we're counting the forty years in Hell as forty years).

As for Azkaban vs. Hell, I'm not entirely sure they're so different? Dean was tortured in Hell, but so was Sirius, in his way, as he had to be around dementors, which made Harry pass out because of the memories they brought out and he had to be around them all the time and he grew up in that crazy house. THIS IS JUST MY CRAZY THEORY.
